Abstract

This is a review of a book entitled " ISIS: The State of Terror" by Jessica Stern and J. M. Berger. It traces the conditions under which ISIS emerged as well as the ideological innovations that the group uses to recruit huge numbers of fighters. In addition to that, it highlights the technological tools that the organization exploits on social media to broadcast its atrocities and recruit more people.

Author Biography

Houssem ben lazreg, University of Alberta

My name is Houssem Ben Lazreg and I am currently a PhD student at the University of Alberta with the Department of Translation Studies. I am also teaching Arabic and French. I have been in the USA for four years where I had the chance to teach Arabic, ESL and French at different universities such as Michigan State University, Nazareth College of Rochester, and West Virginia University. In addition to that, I taught some classes related to foreign language education and socio-linguistics with the department of Literacy, Culture and Language Education at Indiana University in Bloomington.
